Windel Energy unveils its 350MW Solar & Storage Park, Fosse Green Energy

Today, early-stage proposals have been unveiled for Fosse Green Energy, a new Solar and Energy Storage park as the team behind the project launched a consultation to seek local views on the project. If built, the new Solar & Energy Storage park would generate enough clean, renewable energy to power the equivalent of 110,000 homes.

The project is anticipated to have a generating capacity of c.350 megawatts (MW) peak direct current (dc), with an export capacity of 240MW peak alternating current (ac). The clean, renewable energy produced by Fosse Green Energy will make a valuable contribution to the UK Government’s targets to reach net zero by 2050. The Government’s Net Zero Growth Plan published in March 2023 reiterated these aims, including the commitment to increase the UK’s solar capacity fivefold by 2035.

Fosse Green Energy is proposed to be located on land 5.6 miles (9 km) southwest of Lincoln in North Kesteven, Lincolnshire. It will be made up of solar photovoltaic (PV) panels, power conversion stations, an onsite substation and battery energy storage areas located on the north and south of the A46, known as Fosse Way.

The project is being brought forward by Fosse Green Energy, a joint venture between Windel Energy and Recurrent Energy. Windel Energy was established in 2018 and specialises in the development and asset management of renewable energy projects and low carbon technologies.

This non-statutory phase of community consultation runs from Monday, 11th September until Saturday 20th October 2023. Recognising the benefits of digital consultation tools and face-to-face engagement, Fosse Green Energy is running a hybrid consultation, with both an online webinar as well as four in-person drop-in sessions. These event dates are as follows:

  • Saturday 30th September – 10:00-14:00 – Witham St Hughs Village Hall, Caraway Drive, Witham St Hughs, Lincoln, LN6 9XG
  • Wednesday 4th October – 15:00-19:00 – Oliver Roper Parish Meeting Room, Lincoln Lane, Thorpe on the Hill, Lincoln, LN6 9BH
  • Thursday 5th October – 15:00-19:00 – The Venue @ Navenby, Grantham Road, Navenby, Lincoln, LN5 0JJ
  • Saturday 7th October – 10:00-16:00 – Hammond Sports Centre Main Hall, 35 Lincoln Rd, Bassingham, Lincoln, LN5 9HQ
  • Wednesday 11th October – 18:00-19:00 – Online event held on a zoom call, register here to attend (Webinar Registration – Zoom)

Full details of all these events can be found at the project website address

Commenting on the launch of Fosse Green Energy, Gary Toomey, Managing Director of Windel Energy said:

“We’ve already considered and listened to feedback received earlier this year and have decided to not use overhead lines and pylons for the connection into the national grid. The feedback we receive at this stage of public consultation is very important and will help to further influence design of the project, with it used to better understand aspects which should be prioritised as Fosse Green Energy is developed. We are particularly looking for suggestions of community schemes or projects that we could be a part of and on our plans to deliver biodiversity net gain.”

The solar and energy storage park is being proposed by Fosse Green Energy Limited, a Windel Energy and Recurrent Energy JV.
