Windel Energy make statement opposing Modern Slavery

NEWCASTLE, UK, March 15, 2022 – Windel Energy Ltd (the “Company”, or “Windel”), today made a statement with regards to “Modern Slavery”.

Modern slavery is a crime and a violation of fundamental human rights. It takes various forms, such as slavery, servitude, forced and compulsory labour and human trafficking, all of which have in common the deprivation of a person’s liberty by another to exploit them for personal or commercial gain. Windel is committed to acting ethically and with integrity in all our business dealings and relationships and to implementing and enforcing effective systems and controls to aim to ensure modern slavery is not taking place anywhere in our own business or in any of our supply chains. As we continue to expand our business, we are committed to holding ourselves to high standards and ensuring there is transparency in our own business practices and in our approach to tackling modern slavery throughout our supply chains. We demand the same high standards from all our contractors, suppliers, and other business partners.

Windel are a Development and Asset management business and as such we are not the party that construct’s the Solar and Battery Energy Storage System sites, with the effect that to-date we have had very little control over the supply chain. Windel today have made the decision that effective immediately all it’s developments will have a self-forced clause to the planning application/permission that rigorously covers supply chain of any component or labour used in the construction and on-going maintenance of its developments. Our lawyers are currently drafting the policy and once completed it will be added to all Windel projects, furthermore we encourage any and all developers to also adopt the same policy.

Gary Toomey, Managing Director of Windel Energy, commented “There is just no place in our world for modern slavery and by the addition of attaching rigorous supply chain requirements to our developments permissions we hope we are removing at least one hiding place for any such violations of human rights.” Gary further added “Once our lawyers have completed the policy it will be released on free license to any party to adopt, our ultimate goal is for all Renewables Developers to adopt the same policy”.
