Windel Energy Given Green Light for Solar Farm in Coffinswell

On Tuesday 15th August, Teignbridge District Council issued the decision notice, granting planning consent for a 21MW Solar Farm which will displace over 6,300 tonnes of CO2 every year and will produce enough energy to power circa 6,000 homes per year.

Plans for the Solar Farm in Coffinswell were first submitted to Teignbridge District Council in August 2022, following a community consultation. The site provides a range of benefits beyond renewable energy generation, including significant biodiversity net gain of 60.75% for habitat units and 66% in hedgerow units. A permissive footpath will also be provided, which has been incorporated in the proposals following consultation with the local community. This has allowed us to provide a safe and accessible route off the main road and via the development for the community to enjoy which was previously not available. Construction of the Solar Farm is anticipated to begin in late 2023, completing in 2024.

Gary Toomey, Managing Director said: “This is a truly exciting project and with construction due to commence later this year and a commercial operation date before the end of 2024, this project will soon be producing clean renewable energy onto our UK grid infrastructure. At a time when there are so may delays in energising renewable energy generators onto the UK grid infrastructure we are delighted that this project will energise just as soon as construction is completed. This project will genuinely contribute to supporting the government’s goals of achieving a ‘net zero’ electricity network by 2035.”
