Planning Permission has been granted for our 9.9MW Solar Farm, Talbot Green

We are pleased to announce that planning permission for a 9.9MW Solar Farm has been unanimously granted by Rhonda Cynon Taf Council’s planning committee.

The project is a joint development between Windel Energy and Recurrent Energy with planning consultants, The Sirius Group assisting with bringing the project through consent. The scheme will see the construction and energisation of the solar farm, with associated infrastructure, and is expected to connect in 2025 following, what is expected to be, a six-month construction programme.

Comprising several agricultural fields with photovoltaic panels orientated in a south facing alignment, the solar farm will be connected to the Talbot Green substation at Ynysmaerdy. The detailed design of the connection is currently being agreed with the DNO.

At the fore of the project is biodiversity enhancements including the creation of an ecological corridor that will be formally managed for the duration of the scheme and the planting of new, native species-rich hedgerow to increase habitats. Additional biodiversity ehancements include:

  • Increasing existing grassland diversity through conservation grazing across the entire site
  • The enhancement of the habitat corridor for marsh fritillary butterfly with the planting of species of value plant plugs that will enrich the purple moor grassland and rush pasture habitat
  • The avoidance of construction during the bird breeding season
  • The designation of three fields (3.6ha) as skylark compensation areas with the over sowing of these fields with species rich seed mix and the introduction of managed, low-level cattle grazing to develop a grassland habitat suitable for nesting skylarks.

Windel Energy specialise in the origination, development and asset management of renewable energy projects and low carbon disruptive technologies. The company has more than 1.5 gigawatts of clean, renewable solar power, 3 gigawatts of battery energy storage and 150MW of onshore wind at various stages of development.
