Mallard Pass Examination Begins

Windel Energy reaches another milestone with it’s Mallard Pass Solar Farm by entering the Examination phase. The Examination phase will last for 6 months and once complete, the Planning Inspectorate will make a recommendation to the Secretary of State within three months as to whether the application for our project should be granted or not.

Following this, the Secretary of State then has three months to review and consider the recommendation before deciding whether to grant the Development Consent Order (DCO).

The Examination phase began with a preliminary hearing on the 16th of May and two open floor hearings on the 17th of May. The preliminary meeting was led by Planning Inspectors – David Cliff & Mark James – to discuss the examination timetable and procedure with the Open Floor Hearing giving interested parties a chance to give their views on the project. The hearings were attended by the Mallard Pass team with members of Windel Energy & Canadian Solar in attendance alongside.

Mallard Pass Solar Farm is proposed to be located on agricultural land on either side of the East Coast Main Line near Essendine, partly situated in South Kesteven, Lincolnshire, and partly in Rutland.

The site is close to the National Grid Ryhall 400 kilovolts (kV) Substation at Uffington Lane, which is where the electricity generated from the proposed solar farm will connect to the national grid, providing clean, secure power for a variety of uses; including homes, industry and infrastructure.

Mallard Pass is expected to generate in the region of 350 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy, enough to power the equivalent of 92,000 UK households with clean and renewable energy.
